Our Vision: We strive to be a model campus where students and staff are empowered to grow.
Our campus is named after Ronald Erwin McNair who was an American NASA astronaut and physicist who served as a mission specialist on the Space Shuttle Challenger. McNair was born on October 21, 1950 in Lake City, South Carolina. His parents were Pearl and Carl McNair. McNair graduated as valedictorian of Carver High School in 1967. In 1976 McNair received a Ph.D degree in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, becoming nationally recognized for his work in the field of laser physics.
Ronald Erwin McNair fought for social justice even as a child. When McNair was younger, he refused to leave a segregated Lake City Public Library until he was able to check out the books he wanted. His mother and the police were called to the incident. The result of the incident was that McNair was now able to check books from the library, which is now named after him.
Our campus strives to create an atmosphere where all students feel welcome. We focus on closing achievement gaps, striving for excellence, and providing our students with engaging curriculum. Our teachers are dedicated to making sure each and every learner has the opportunity for success. Some of our teachers are even Southwest ISD alumni, which proves that WE ARE SOUTHWEST.
